(Frequently asked questions regarding Japanese style deep soaking bath tub)
| Q1. | Japanese style deep soaking bath tub Yubune II seems ideal for the American market, but who is trained to install such tubs ? |
| A1. | Any Licensed Contractor or Plumber will be able to install. |
| Q2. | I understand that the Yubune II costs $1,710, but how much should I set aside for installation ? |
| A2. | Minimum cost of $2,500 to $3,000. Installation of a new tub involves: removing existing bathtub, setting Yubune II, raising tub-filler, changing fixtures if needed and, installing tub surrounds. Since each bathroom has different restrictions/needs, it would be a good idea to contact a licensed contractor or plumber and ask for a free estimate. We will provide you with the specification sheet of Yubune II to facilitate the estimating process. Please feel free to have the contractor or the plumber contact us with any questions or concerns. |
| Q3. | Since Yubune II has a depth which is almost 12 deeper than most conventional American tubs, I'm concerned about the difficulty in installing Yubune II in existing bathroom space. |
| A3. | When renovating a bath tub, the problem often encountered is getting the tub situated back into the existing space. The installer must tilt the tub at an angle to place the tub back in a horizontal position. Although Yubune II has depth which is almost 12 deeper, it is designed with a 12 platform which makes installation easier than with conventional tubs. |
| Q4. | I am worried about the weight of the Yubune II when filled since it is much deeper than the conventional tub. Unless living in a reinforced concrete building, I would think that some sort of reinforcement is needed to support the weight. |
| A4. | Since most American houses have cast iron tubs which by itself weighs about 300 pounds, as compared to Yubune II which weighs only 80 pounds, the total weight when filled is just about the same. Yubune II is designed with the interior length which is 10 shorter and the interior depth which is 5 deeper. The design allows the bather enough space as well as depth and saves on amount of water needed to fill. |
| Q5. | My parents are getting on with age and are increasingly having trouble getting in and out of the bathtub. Since Yubune II is deeper that the conventional tub, is there anything we can do to make it easier for them? |
| A5. |
There are several ways to handle this. A permanent step can be constructed along the length of the tub or place a sturdy step stool to reduce the distance from the top edge of the tub to the floor. We can also lower the tub into the sub-floor space if available. It is also recommended to install grab bars as a safety precaution. |
| Q6. | I would like to design my bathroom using Yubune II and have a shower area build side by side as in Japan. Is that possible ? |
| A6. |
Yubune II is designed for easy coupling with the wash area. You can purchase a shower pan to fit the available space and couple it with Yubune II. The front panel of Yubune II can be cut to fit the flange of the shower pan for a watertight joint. The shower pan can be installed on a raised floor to make getting in and out of the tub easy. |
